The basic Diploma course of 3 year duration in General Nursing and Midwifery is geared to the
health needs of the individuals, family, community and the country at large.
Some of the aims of Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery program are :
> To prepare nurses with a sound educational program in nursing to enable them to
function as efficient members of the health team, beginning with the competencies for first
level positions in all kinds of health care settings
and to co-ordinate with members of health team in the prevention of disease, promotion of
health and rehabilitation of the sick.
> To help nurses in their personal and professional development so that they are able to make
maximum contribution to the society
> This Diploma course also serves as a base for further professional education and
specialization in nursing.
On completion of the course, the nurse will be able to:
- Demonstrate competency in providing health care to individual, sick or well, using nursing
process - Apply knowledge from humanities, biological and behavioral sciences
- Participate as member of health team
- Demonstrate use of ethical values in their personal and professional life
- Demonstrate basic skills in teaching patients and assist in research activities.
Eligibility criteria
- Intermediate/ 10+2 with English, preferably science subjects with a minimum of 45% of marks. Candidates from Arts stream are eligible too.
- Candidates from State Open School recognized by State Government and; National Institute of
Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government - 10+2 with English having 45% of marks in vocational stream-Health care Science from
recognized CBSE board/State/Centre. - Registered ANM
Admission strength: 60 seats.
For Foreign Nationals
- The entry qualification equivalency i.e., 12 th standard will be obtained by Association of
Indian Universities (AIU) New Delhi. - Admission of students shall be once in a year.
- Students shall be medically fit.
- Minimum age for admission will be 17 years (as on 31 st December of that year)

The students have their community field experience in rural and urban community health centers. Students of KIMS School of Nursing are members of Student Nurses Association(SNA). Various activities i.e., academic as well as cocurricular are organized throughout the academic year. The students take active part in SNA competitions at state and national level. Training programme in Skill development and Soft skills are conducted during the internship period so as to equip them with necessary skills and confidence for the future jobs. They are taken on field visits, take active part in community health programs. They do enjoy one day picnics within the city.

Examinations:
- Shall be one regular examination followed by supplementary examination in a year.
- Minimum pass marks is 50% in each of the Theory and Practical paper-separately.
- If a candidate fails in either theory or practical paper she has to appear for both the papers- Theory and Practical.
